Contributing to the disaster-stricken Tohoku region by creating positive news about cashmere
Tohoku was devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.
On the surface, the Tohoku region appears to have recovered, but it is still in the process of recovery.
I hope to create a workplace in Tohoku where people can say, "There is a stylish and bright cashmere company in Kitakami, Iwate, that can be used worldwide.
Everyone has his or her own strengths and weaknesses. I want to create a workplace where as many people as possible can be employed through UTO's knit-making and earn a living through manufacturing.
In my 20s, I was a world traveler, and in my 30s, I worked with boutiques and department stores all over Japan in the knit apparel business. Then, when I came to Iwate, my business started to turn around. The decisive factor was that our cashmere products were well received by the hometown taxpayers. In the second year, we received 200 million yen in donations from all over Japan, and over the next eight years, we received over 1.7 billion yen in donations, which pleased both Kitakami City and the donors, and above all, contributed greatly to our company's business.
We cherish these win-win relationships and want to contribute to employment in Iwate. Rather, we would like to send our products to the world through the serious and careful manufacturing of this region.
We want to make Kitakami, Iwate Prefecture the world's mecca for knitwear.
There is a city called Modena between Milan and Florence in Italy. If you are a car enthusiast, you will immediately say, "Aha! I think many of you will be smiling. This is where the headquarters of the famous Italian car Ferrari is located, and it is a place of longing that car lovers such as F-1 fans wish to visit at least once.
My hope is that cashmere lovers from all over the world will gather in Kitakami City, Iwate Prefecture, where UTO's factory is located, just like F-1 fans visit Ferrari's city of Modena.
People from all over the world who love cashmere and want to visit Kitakami to see, experience, and order their own cashmere sweaters and scarves will come to UTO. After that, we would like them to travel around Michinoku, which is blessed with rich nature and culture. And I want young people to spread their wings to New York, Milan, and the rest of the world to do business from here.
UTO moved to Iwate from Yamanashi by chance, but since coming to Kitakami, we have been supported by the people of Kitakami. Above all, the young craftsmen in Iwate are doing a great job.
I think the manufacturing environment is an important part of our brand.
Based on the world's finest raw materials and more careful manufacturing than anywhere else in the world, UTO cashmere is produced like a work of art in a bright and clean factory that is easy to work in and stands amidst beautiful green lawns. We want you to make your products in the most fashionable factory in Tohoku. And to create an economic base where people can lead affluent lives that are as good as those in big cities. We would like to leave such a factory.
