Custom orders only possible at our own factory.
We were rejected by all the factories we asked and had to build our own factory.
In the end, we became a one-of-a-kind company.
As I mentioned before, I believe that the quality of a product and the reliability of a brand are determined by “raw materials and manufacturing. From the time we started our business as a wholesaler, our goal for the future was to plan, manufacture, and sell our products as a single entity, so it was essential for us to manufacture products that we could be satisfied with as our own brand.
As a newcomer and a small-scale apparel company, our orders were small in lot size, and we could not get factories to take our orders. At the time of our founding, the minimum production lot required of us was 100 pieces per model. This was nothing for a large company, but for an apparel company that had just started business, it was a difficult number to meet. However, for knitters, production of less than 100 pieces was too inefficient. Under such circumstances, my request to make each piece individually was out of the norm in the industry, and naturally, all the factories I asked refused my request.
Why do you need a lot for production? It is because the knit manufacturing industry is required by the apparel industry to produce inexpensively, in large quantities, and for early delivery, and it is necessary to adapt to the current situation in the fashion industry where materials and designs change with each season. This requires a rationalized production method of division of labor, and there was neither the time nor the luxury of time to pursue and create a single material or design in depth.
In response to my request to have each garment custom-ordered, the president of a close knitwear manufacturer told me, “That would be like asking an artist to create a work of art; it would not be profitable at all, and would be impossible not only for our company but also for others.
Even so, I could not give up my desire to provide good products one piece at a time, placing the highest priority on manufacturing, and the only way to achieve this was to own my own factory.
Now that we have achieved this goal, we have become a one-of-a-kind company that practically no one else can compete with.
