Our Commitment to Molded Knitwear
Sustainable manufacturing methods that do not waste valuable raw materials and are in line with the SDGs
It is no exaggeration to say that clothing is made of woven and knitted fabrics. Most clothing is woven, and most outerwear is woven because woven fabrics are made by threading weft yarns through warp yarns and do not stretch or shrink, so they can be worn tightly. On the other hand, knitted fabrics, such as sweaters and T-shirts, stretch and shrink, making them easy to wear.
UTO is a knit shop, so we specialize in knitting. The most common types of knitting are weft and circular knitting (warp knitting is also available).
UTО specializes in weft knitting. Weft knitting is knitting while moving a cam from side to side, and circular knitting is knitting while going around in circles. Weft knitting is represented by sweaters, while circular knitting is mainly used for T-shirts and other garments.
The basis of clothes making is the pattern. It can be said that the pattern is the key to making a comfortable garment out of a fabric that does not stretch or shrink. Clothes are cut and sewn together according to the pattern. In this process, cutting loss inevitably occurs.
Circular knitting is used for T-shirts, etc., because the fabric itself is knitted and can easily stretch and shrink, but it is called "cut and sewn" knitwear because the knitted fabric is cut and sewn together according to the pattern.
UTO is a weft knit, and there is a reason why we insist on weft knitting. There is a reason why we insist on weft knitting, and that is that only weft knitting can be used as a "formed knitting" method.
Formed knitting is basically knitting five patterns: front, back, left and right sleeves, and collar. The yarn is knitted by decreasing, increasing, and merging the stitches according to the pattern without cutting a single strand, so there is no need to cut the yarn in the middle of knitting. The knitted parts are joined together by linking, a process that is unique to knitting.
As you may have noticed, this is the most basic method of knitting, the same as hand knitting, so no yarn is wasted.
The main reason why we continue to offer cashmere knit UTO is to provide molded knitwear that does not produce cut loss, which is essential for making clothes, and allows you to make clothes without wasting yarn at all.
This is the ultimate sustainable product in line with the United Nations' SDGs of Responsibility to Create and Responsibility to Use.
